Rapper Fat Joe has lost over 100 pounds in the past year, scaling back from his all-time high of 460, according to a recent article in the New York Daily News. But he isn't just concerned with his own health -- he sees his extreme weight as a symptom of social problems in the community where he comes from.
"I was just a kid myself, dealing with childhood obesity," the star, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena, told the Daily News. Now he's working with Newark's Mayor Cory Booker to create anti-obesity programming for kids in low-income neighborhoods throughout the city. But he isn't the only one who's lost the weight and now wants to pay it forward. Other stars have dropped significant poundage and hope to inspire others to do the same:
The Academy Award-winning actress and singer has lost a reported 80 pounds since she began focusing on diet and exercise. After working as a spokesman for Weight Watchers diet systems, she's written a book, "I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down," describing the weight loss process.
But she hasn't just shared her success with fans -- 175 of her family members joined Weight Watchers after Hudson signed up and she recently told The Huffington Post that they've lost over 2,000 pounds collectively.
